Today, our "Sonic Reducer" series continues. In the series, Punknews writers compress a band, genre, theme, or time period into a playlist that would fit on a single CD. Along with the playlist, you'll get either an overview of the topic, such as a band introduction, or a story about how the music in the playlist moved or changed the writer. Crack Rock Steady

The band became well-known at the C-Squat in the Lower East Side of Manhattan for their innovative music and politically charged lyrics.[4] They also became infamous for their Satanic imagery and references to the vagrant lifestyle, including smoking both crack cocaine and marijuana, shoplifting, and squatting.[5] The band prides itself on its atheism, and makes frequent references to Satan. On the album No Gods, No Managers, they use excerpts from the lectures of political scientist Michael Parenti.

Leftöver Crack is an American punk rock band formed in 1998, following the breakup of Choking Victim. The band is currently signed to Tankcrimes for CD releases, and Alternative Tentacles for vinyl releases. Leftöver Crack spans several different music genres including hardcore punk, ska, and crust punk. They write mostly political lyrics of a radical leftist nature, opposing religion, capitalism, and authority. Members of Leftöver Crack reside in the C-Squat on 155 Avenue C in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Natives of New York City, band members have a well-documented history of back-and-forth conflict with the NYPD which precedes the band's formation.[2] The name "Leftöver Crack" is explained by Stza as being "an oxymoron", based on the idea that crack cocaine addicts are known for vigorous use and are unlikely to have any "leftover" crack.

In February 2003, the band began to record the songs that they had written and developed over the last three years with esteemed engineer Steve Albini, a majority of which would see a release on their second album. After recording two final songs that winter, and having finally been dropped from Hellcat Records' roster, the band opted to release the song the following the year as the Fuck World Trade demo for the consideration of independent punk record labels. Around the same time, the band were approached by renowned underground punk rock figure and ex-Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra, and consequently signed to his Alternative Tentacles record label.

An experimental method to visualise crack-induced perturbations of the stress field in two-dimensional elastic cracked media is presented. The method is based on the formal equivalence between the steady-state velocity field of an incompressible Newtonian fluid and the displacement field in an incompressible elastic solid in equilibrium. Two-dimensional steady-state flow experiments of an incompressible Newtonian fluid were conducted in a Hele Shaw cell. Thin rubber inclusions were inserted in the cell to model pre-existing cracks. The streamlines around the obstacles were visualised by injection of methylen blue dye into the flow. Several experiments were conducted in which different configurations of cracks were modeled:

The results compare well with the available experimental data on crack growth in elastic plates under uniaxial compression and demonstrate the ability of the method to accurately account both for cracks induced perturbations and potential crack trajectories in elastic media.
